What is Bot?

A bot is a program that makes the performance of repetitive tasks automatic.

There are legitimate bots to interact with online users through support chats, to automate data entry (RPA), and others that perform illicit actions such as collecting information on a website for malicious purposes (email addresses), sending SPAM and comments on forums and web pages on a massive scale, or malware that performs attacks against other systems.

In the latter case, the term bot is similar to Zombie.
